Este continente ha sufrido unos enormes cambios<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La Ant\u00e1rtida fue hogar de dinosaurios durante el per\u00edodo Cret\u00e1cico. 90 millones de a\u00f1os atr\u00e1s, este continente era un lugar muy verde. All\u00ed exist\u00edan frondosos bosques, en los que habitaban diferentes tipos de dinosaurios, asegur\u00f3 un estudio publicado en la revista <em>Nature<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De acuerdo con los investigadores, en ese per\u00edodo, la Tierra era mucho m\u00e1s caliente que en la actualidad. El Polo Sur estuvo sin hielo por m\u00e1s de 80 millones de a\u00f1os. En el Cret\u00e1cico, los altos niveles de di\u00f3xido de carbono incidieron en que la Ant\u00e1rtida tuviera muchas plantas, aves y dinosaurios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Para llegar a esas conclusiones, los cient\u00edficos tuvieron en cuenta los f\u00f3siles de reptiles, conchas y \u00e1rboles antiguos. Seg\u00fan Brian Huber, paleont\u00f3logo del Museo Smithsonian de Historia Natural, la Ant\u00e1rtida fue hogar de dinosaurios y tuvo temperaturas sobre los 30 grados Celsius. Los investigadores lo llaman \u201cel invernadero del Cret\u00e1cico\u201d. Para los estudiosos, esas altas concentraciones de di\u00f3xido de carbono se produjeron por la explosi\u00f3n de muchos volcanes. Tanto vulcanismo provoc\u00f3 que se creara la capa, con efecto invernadero, que calent\u00f3 notablemente a la Tierra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ante esta explicaci\u00f3n, surge la duda: si en la actualidad los cient\u00edficos mencionan constantemente al calentamiento global y a los gases de efecto invernadero, \u00bfpodr\u00eda esto provocar que la Ant\u00e1rtida volviera a ser un continente cubierto de \u00e1rboles?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huber no ofreci\u00f3 un no rotundo ante ese posible escenario. Para sustentar su afirmaci\u00f3n aclar\u00f3 que, en la actualidad, las sociedades contempor\u00e1neas liberan cientos de miles de toneladas de di\u00f3xido de carbono en pocas d\u00e9cadas. Esto es much\u00edsimo m\u00e1s que lo que emit\u00edan los volcanes, millones de a\u00f1os atr\u00e1s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diferentes investigaciones han demostrado que la Ant\u00e1rtida pierde cada vez m\u00e1s hielo. Por tanto, pensar en un deshielo de ese continente no parece ciencia ficci\u00f3n.
